[Connectivity] Intermittent issues with internet, but not VoIP

August 24th, 2008
I have been having this issue for the last 4 months. Before this, I've had very few problems with Comcast, if this is even a problem with them. I live in Hartland, Michigan. I am having intermittent connection issues as far as using the internet, but I am still able to use my VoIP (Vonage) most of the time. At first I was sure it was on Vonage's end and so did they. They sent a new router but nothing changed. Tried bypassing the router for two days, and still had problems. A Comcast tech came out and replaced the modem. He also said that from his readings, I was getting too strong of a signal, and he put a splitter on the line. No change. numerous calls back to Comcast had me changing numerous different settings on the computer. No change. My hard drive was acting up for a while anyway, so I replaced it, and a new install of Windows XP. No change. The problem seems to happen at semi-regular times. Quite a bit from about 8:00 pm Eastern time to 9:00 or so, and almost everyday like clockwork at exactly 10:30 am Eastern. My modem is Scientific Atlanta DPC2100 Software version v2.0.2r1256-060303 The only router I have is the Vonage router, model VDV21-VD. I don't run a firewall or anti-virus software. I don't have a speed issue when I am able to get a connection. When I have the issue, I get a blinking PC light, steady cable and power light, the other two are dark. I can't post signal levels or log entries, as my modem tells me 'This feature has not been enabled in your cable modem' for both options. The cable comes direct from the box to my PC, less than 10 ft between them. Other than the splitter, nothing between them. The only thing that comes to mind that changes with my service when this started to occur was my service plan went from a straight internet only package, to one they offered called 'Keep the dish' - lower rate, plus basic digital cable. Would a change in plan change the feed to cause this? I've asked nearly each time I've called Comcast and they have said no. Could anyone help steer me the right way? Thanks!
